中国护士必须取得英国护士和助产士委员会(NMC)的注册资格才能在英国从事护士工作。中国护士在英国护士和助产士委员会(NMC)注册的条件有两个：
一是雅思每部分7分 ，从07年2月1日起开始实行；
二是在通过雅思后,需要进行20天的理论学习和在NMC核准的医院或老人院进行6个月的临床实习。

这两个条件缺一不可.

从2007年2月1日起，海外护士包括中国护士要想取得NMC的注册，必须IELTS 先考过4个7分。在通过听说读写每部分7分以后，中国护士必须通过20天的理论学习和在NMC核准的医院或老人院进行6个月的临床实习，而其它国家的护士只需要3个月的临床实习。

中国护士在英国医疗人才市场是个不为人知的群体，中国护士大多数英语不过关, 从国内申请签证直接去英国做注册护士的可能性几乎为零。即使英国计划在其它发展中国家招聘高级护理员, 中国护士也通常不在考虑之列. 于是，中国护士拿学生签证去英国学习已经成了一个非常特殊的景观，也是到目前为止，中国护士赴英国的最常用到的途经。国内中介和国外语言学校的许诺往往是通过语言学习通过雅思考试后直接在英国申请注册护士。那么可行性如何呢？

绝大多数的中国护士无法在学生签证到期前通过雅思考试，即便有少数通过者，由于受英国NMC承认的提供临床实习的医院/老人院数量极其有限，一个位置通常有上百人申请，获得这样的实习机会的可能性是非常渺茫的。

因此抱着直接到英国做注册护士的愿望的中国护士的经历往往是:
支付高额学费和中介费(8万人民币),远渡重洋
雅思屡考不过
打黑工
身份无法解决
雅思考过7分了，但实习位置申请不上
最后打道回府

即使就签证策略本身来讲，护士学生签证被拒签的机率是非常大的，而且受申请当时的英国使馆政策影响非常大, 没有任何预测性。高额存款证明和向签证官证明本人没有移民倾向这两点，对于很多人来说是需要弄虚作假才能实现的。一旦有了被拒签的历史，对申请者将来申请任何签证都会有不利的影响。

NMC Raises English Language Test Pass Score

The NMC has raised the minimum English language overall pass score to 7.0 for overseas-trained nurses and midwives coming to work in the UK from 1 February 2007 to ensure greater public protection.
The British Council’s International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is currently compulsory for all nurses trained outside the European Economic Area (EEA), but the minimum overall score, in the academic version of the test, is set at 6.5 (out of a possible 9). For midwives the general or academic version of this test is currently acceptable.
The following now has to be achieved by overseas-trained nurses and midwives in the academic test who make fresh applications to the NMC from 1 February 2007:
At least 7.0 in the listening and reading sections
At least 7.0 in the writing and speaking section
An overall average score of 7 (out of a possible 9)

As a result of public consultations for both nursing (November 2003) and midwifery (October 2005) and evidence collected from the British Council, the NMC decided that a score of 7 was the lowest level acceptable for language skills.

Nurses trained outside the EEA must complete an Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP) in order to gain entry to the NMC Register. The ONP consists of a compulsory 20-day period of protected learning and where appropriate, a period of three to six months supervised practice.

Midwives will complete a period of Adaptation Training.

The IELTS test certificate score should be submitted to the NMC at the initial application stage.
